Protest in TN’s Pudukottai after Sri Lankan Army arrests 14 fishermen

Households of fishermen and native other folks protested on Sunday at Jegathapattinam in Tamil Nadu’s Pudukottai district over the Sri Lankan Army arresting 14 fishermen and seizing their mechanised boats.

The fishermen have been arrested on Saturday night time.

Manikantan, fisherman chief of Jagathapattinam whilst chatting with IANS, mentioned, “Every day our brethren are getting arrested by means of the Sri Lankan Army and other folks are actually anxious about getting into seas for fishing and to hold out their regimen way of livelihood. The fishermen’s chief additional mentioned, “3 mechanised boats have been impounded by means of the Sri Lankan Army. Although the fishermen are launched after some days of judicial custody in Sri Lanka, our boats might not be launched. The boats are then connected by means of the Lankan executive. That is making existence depressing for the fishermen fraternity of Tamil Nadu.”

He mentioned that the fishermen and members of the family would block the roads and disrupt visitors as a protest towards the arrest of the 14 fishermen.

The fishermen have been arrested by means of the Sri Lankan Army for allegedly crossing the World Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) and fishing close to Neduntheevu within the Palk Strait.

Their 3 boats have been additionally impounded. The arrested fishermen in conjunction with 49 others had long gone into the ocean from Jegathapattinam round 7 a.m. on Saturday.

The arrested fishermen are, Pradeep, Ranjith, Prabakaran and Ajith who have been on a ship owned by means of Mahadevan; Vishwa, Anandaraj, Anandababu, Kubendran and Sekar who have been on a ship owned by means of Senthilkumar; and Manikandan, Muthukumar, Sellathambi, Selvam and Suresh who have been on a ship owned by means of Manikandan.

The Tamil Nadu coastal law enforcement officials mentioned that the arrested fishermen have been taken to Kankesanthurai naval base in Sri Lanka.

It can be recalled that round 84 fishermen from Tamil Nadu are within the custody of Sri Lankan government. The arrests have ended in protests erupting in coastal districts of Tamil Nadu like Ramanathapuram, Nagapattinam and Pudukottai.
